In-country and client reviews: getting them right

Translation quality standards – do they matter?

Prior to 2006, various translation quality standards existed. However, they focused more on the translation process rather than on linguistic quality. Client requirements were not considered. In 2006, individual national standards were replaced by the pan-European BS EN 15038 (Translation Services). It defines quality as conformance to customer requirements, reduces ambiguity through the clear definition of terms, and clarifies roles and responsibilities (of both the translation service provider and client). Terminology: Words Matter

30th September was International Translation Day, as introduced by FIT (International Federation of Translators) in 1991. The date coincides with St. Jerome’s Day, patron saint of translators, who translated the Bible into the Vulgate Latin version.
