Transporters, Ray Guns and Universal Translators

The world of science fiction has shown us many wonders: alien intelligences; faster-than-light (FTL) travel; dematerialisation transporter devices; bigger, brighter, louder weapons; machine intelligences taking over the world; Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming a successful U.S. politician… This list barely scrapes the tip of the iceberg.

The effect of localisation on app sales

We have always advocated that our customers localise their apps in order to take advantage of foreign markets, but with the release of our first two iPhone apps, we had a chance to look at the sales implications directly.

Our first app, Robertsons Phrasebook free, was released on the 1st of September and was localised into English, Italian, Simplified Chinese, Polish, Spanish and Icelandic.

Our second app, Robertsons NameIt Free, was released on the 16th September, but was available only in English.

iPhone and iPad App localisation and development

Our newest iPhone App has now been approved and is available to download from the App Store, by clicking here. It’s a vocabulary game operating in English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Chinese and Icelandic.

The game was developed entirely in-house in only a few weeks, using Objective C, XCode and the Cocos2D game engine. It shows that we can quickly handle complex apps containing animation, sound effects and music.
